Tooth decay is a preventable disease that requires knowledge of all the factors contributing to its formation.

We are told to eat and drink healthy, exercise, get proper rest and take care of our bodies. Well the same can be applied to taking care of our oral health and today I want to discuss a very helpful adjunct to fighting tooth decay.

The active ingredient in Tooth Mousse is “casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate” or CPP-ACP. CPP-ACP is a unique, naturally derived protein-based remineralizing product available in chewing gum and in the cream called Tooth Mousse.

Not only does Tooth Mousse help with preventing decay but it is also used to reverse the visible white spot carious lesions seen when a tooth decalcifies. It is also extremely effective in treating dentinal hypersensitivity too.

So not only is it necessary to brush at least twice a day and floss daily too, watch our diet (frequency of intake and consistency of foods), and to drink plenty of water, it is a well know fact that tooth mousse applied after meals greatly reduces the chance of making cavities.

There is a product called Tooth Mousse Plus which contains fluoride as well. So if you want the added protection this is one step better. Now I know that there is some controversy about fluoride and so those people who don’t want fluoride, can have the reassurance that Tooth Mousse is very safe as it is derived milk caseins.

So if you want to prevent cavities, talk to us about Tooth Mousse !

I suppose the question one needs to ask is “why do you want white teeth?” For some people, whiter teeth will improve their self image, their confidence. For others, it may help them in their careers, being more successful. It may be that you wish to improve your social life or to impress others. For whatever the reason, a bright smile with white teeth can now be achieved quite simply.

There are many reasons why teeth are not as white as they can be. Staining can happen internally during development or be altered by medications like Tetracycline, or externally from stains like coffee, tea, wine, smoke, certain spices and foods like blueberries. Some of these stains can be removed when you go to the dentist to have your teeth cleaned, but when that isn’t enough, people will search for other whitening methods.

Simple options could be the use of whitening gels administered in a tray that is custom made to be worn over the teeth for a specific time each day. Other methods could include laser whitening which is done in the dentist chair.

Still, there are times when the stains or discolourations are so stubborn that whitening just doesn’t work well enough. These are the situations where porcelain veneers can be fabricated to not only change the colour but sometimes to change the shape and arrangement of the teeth.

It is so good that we live in a day and age when technology has advanced so much that we have choices available to us. Just ask your friendly dentist the next time you visit to see what options will work for you.

Good dental hygiene is imperative at every age and it is something that will benefit everyone. It is never too early or too late to begin caring for your teeth and gums. The two major causes of tooth loss are: decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Through good dental hygiene we can prevent these conditions or deal with them in a quick and easy manner.

Our top tips for a healthy vibrant smile, include:

Brush your teeth twice a day (after breakfast and dinner)
Floss in between your teeth once a day
Visit the Dentist every six months for a routine examination and clean
Replace your toothbrush every three to four months or after an illness
Use toothpaste with added fluoride
Attend Periodontal check-ups and oral cancer screenings
Avoid tobacco products and excessive alcohol consumption
Reduce the amount of acidity in your diet
Eat a healthy diet, get enough rest and exercise

We generally recommend that you visit the Dentist every six months for a thorough examination and clean.

Orthodontics is an area of dentistry focused on building beautiful straight smiles by bringing teeth, lips, and jaws into proper alignment. Straight teeth function better, are easier to clean, and are more likely to last your lifetime.

An attractive smile is a wonderful asset of Orthodontic treatment. A pleasing appearance is an essential component of your self-esteem and a person’s self-image will often improve after treatment. In this way, Orthodontics can benefit your social, professional and overall attitude towards life.

Misaligned teeth may also play a contributing factor to TemporoMandibular Dysfunction. TemporoMandibular Dysfunction or TMD in some cases can be connected to your bite and how your teeth fit together. Neuromuscular Orthodontics tries to provide understanding and treatment for malocclusion caused by the irregularity of teeth alignment or changes in the alignment of the jaws. Treatment aims to realign the jaw joints, facial bones, tissues and teeth. It aims to stop the progression of TMD, which in turn may enable healing and symptoms to be reduced or eliminated.

Orthodontics treatment typically consists of metal Braces. Braces are a combination of brackets and wires attached to the front of your teeth. The brackets grip the teeth and the wires are loosened or tightened to move the teeth into the desired position. The length of treatment will depend on your individual needs (i.e. how far the teeth need to be moved).

Dr. Parrag also works with other Specialists to offer a range of Orthodontic treatment options for patients of TMD.

Can you imagine life without headaches? Many people suffer from the intense pain of migraine headaches on a regular basis and resort to pain killers to alleviate their agony. However, many times these headaches are merely a symptom of a common jaw disorder called TemporoMandibular Joint Disorder (TMD).

TMD is a very uncomfortable, and for the most parts, debilitating disorder of the jaw joints. TMD headaches are generally tension headaches, but they frequently escalate into migraine headaches. The tension occurs from constant clenching of the jaw, or from night-time grinding (bruxing) of the teeth.

The good news is there are treatment options available to help alleviate the headaches and other symptoms caused by TMD as well as treating the cause of the problem.

At Advanced Dental Care Clinic we use the latest techniques to treat your pain without drugs by gently realigning the muscles and nerves in your TemporoMandibular Joint, or TMD. Harmony and balance between the teeth, muscles and jaw joints of the head and neck allow freedom for the body to function. With the head and neck in a neutral position, it reduces stress on the rest of the body.

Dr. Ruth Parrag can assist patients who may be suffering from conditions beyond traditional dentistry such as TMD. Dr. Parrag works with her patients to help alleviate painful symptoms, be comfortable and lead healthy lives.

Contact Advanced Dental Care Clinic today and take advantage of our complementary 15minute Neuromuscular Dentistry consultation. Call 07 5580 3555 or click here to email us.
